Baby Patterns
Research shows that babies like simple patterns in black and white. Babies can see from birth, but high contrast images are easiest for them. (You may have noticed that many infant toys (e.g. this, this, and this) have black and white patterns.) Some books, such as How to have a smarter baby, recommend showing black and white patterns to your baby. Does this make your baby smarter? I don't know, but my daughter finds them entertaining.

I've created a collection of patterns, which you can download as a PDF file, and then print out on your printer.

After baby gets used to black and white, you can introduce red to the baby, so I've included some patterns with red. (There is an interesting similarity with Berlin and Kay's linguistic theory of basic color terms; cultures add color words in this same order.)

Please send me feedback on which patterns work well with your baby, and any additional patterns I should add.
